DRC: Artsen Zonder Grenzen waarschuwt voor de ernstige humanitaire gevolgen van het gewapende conflict in Noord- en Zuid-Kivu
De gevechten tussen de M23/AFC, de FARDC en hun bondgenoten zijn met toenemende intensiteit hervat in Noord- en Zuid-Kivu. Sinds december 2024 zijn er verschillende fronten geopend in Lubero & Masisi in Noord-Kivu, voordat ze zich verplaatsen naar Zuid-Kivu, in Minova & Numbi.
Gevechten naderen Goma (Noord-Kivu), met hevige gevechten in Sake. De humanitaire gevolgen voor de bevolking zijn zeer ernstig. Volgens de Verenigde Naties zijn sinds begin januari opnieuw bijna 400.000 mensen de gevechten ontvlucht. Tienduizenden ontheemden zijn naar vluchtelingenkampen rond Goma getrokken, waar al meer dan 650.000 mensen in extreem onhygiënische omstandigheden leven, zonder geschikt onderdak en met gebrek aan alles: voedsel, water, gezondheidszorg, enz.
De ontheemden zijn niet gespaard gebleven van gevechten. Er zijn raketten afgevuurd in de buurt van kampen en voorzieningen waar mensen hun toevlucht hebben gezocht.
"Het is verschrikkelijk en onacceptabel. We zien een zorgwekkend aantal burgers onder de gewonden die worden behandeld", zegt Emmanuel Lampaert, de vertegenwoordiger van AZG in DRC.
In Goma ondersteunt AZG het Kyeshero ziekenhuis bij de behandeling van gewonden om CICR_Africa te ontlasten aan de frontlinie. In de rest van Noord- & Zuid-Kivu blijven onze teams patiënten behandelen, waaronder 400 gewonden in Minova, Numbi & Masisi in 3 weken.
